The club started with 88 members from 17 colleges and universities. Miss Pope was elected the first president of the College Club, while Miss Shipman served as the first secretary. In 1961 it established the Cleveland Arts Prize to recognize local talent, and in the 1990s it became involved with the Betty Ott Garden for the Blind at the City Greenhouse.
